As the star of wearable devices, the 18 hours battery life of Apple Watch is quite a damage
to its first class industrial design. The battery softness and battery life are the bottleneck of
promotion of wearable devices. However, Professor Peng Huisheng in Fudan University
has solved this problem in technology. He makes lithium
battery and solar battery with fibrous shape from carbon nano-tubes. After knitting the fibrous together, it can realize to supply power and change colors.
The future technology revolution will happen in the wearable device field, especially in the
high integration wearable devices. It is predicted that the wearable devices will be equal to mobile phone or even surpass mobile phone in 2019. However, no matter the Apple Watch, or the smart watch from Samsung and Qualcomm, and Google glass, none of them can
solve the problem of material softness and battery life. After knitting, there is little difference with general fabric. The adding of intelligent polymers makes the fabric change color
according to the range of motion and temperature. Recently, this achievement has caught
the attention from Germany and American enterprises and the research group has begun
to cooperate with a foreign enterprises to develop elastic wristband of smart watch, which
can decrease the weight of smart watch and multiplied the battery life.
Professor Peng says that this result can not only be used in smart wearable devices, but
also in medical field.
