New Regulation in Indonesia Mobile Phone Market

Indonesia mobile phone market is a great potential market with smart phone popularity at 

less than 33.3%, which makes Indonesia be the most attractive smart phone market.

Now Indonesia government make new regulations that the smart phones and tablets sold 

in Indonesia mobile phone market should satisfy 40% component production localization 

and it will come into operation on 1st, January, 2017. America think that Indonesia is short 

of the mature supply chain to produce quality mobile phone at present and is pressing 

Indonesia to change the regulation about local production proportion. Samsung has begun 

to built factory in Jakarta since last year and now Samsung has realized mobile phone 

local production in Indonesia. The supplier of Apple, Foxconn is negotiating with Indonesia 

government on investing factory but without result.

Rudiantara says that this regulation will make Indonesia government get USD 4 billion 

profit from the domestic annual smart phone total sales, which can make Indonesia become the production country from consumer country. American Commerce Department think this 

regulation perhaps holds up the development of new technology in Indonesia mobile phone market and leads to smart phone black-market and other unexpected results.
