Intel announces that they have achieved strategy agreement with Chinese IC designer-Rockchip. The two parties cooperate to widen the products lines and quicken develop
speed.
Since 2011, the global market of tablet PC is leaded by two brands: Apple and whitebox.
Rockchip is SoC designer of ARM in China. In the past three years, it is the winner
of whitebox in Chinese local market and also shocks the global market. Competition is
everywhere. Media Tek in Taiwan have marched into whitebox tablet PC since last year,
and its baseband chip technology become the biggest threaten to Rockchip in the
tablet PC market.
So the strategy agreements between Intel and Rockchip is a big deal- not only for
thetwo parties, but also for the whole global market of tablet PC. The key points
of theagreements are as following:
1)Rockchip will get the authorization of Intel X86 architecture and develop SoC of
X86 architecture for the middle and low end tablet PC market. The first quad core
chipset will be released in the first half year 2015.
2) Rockchip will get the authorization of Intel 3G baseband, which is seldom in
Chinese processor suppliers.
3) Rockchip will get the support on 14Nm process capacity from Intel.
In this cooperation, Intel provides technology, capacity and capital support, and
Rockchip stresses on the products planning, Turnkey solution and customer service.
It should be a win-win cooperation, which perhaps influence the situation of tablet
PC market and even the mobile phone market in the future.
