Anti-monopoly on Qualcomm in China
On 21st, August, Steve Mo Lenkov, the CEO of Qualcomm, led his team to NDRC for
the fourth time to exchange ideas on the solutions of anti-monopoly inspection
with Kunlin Xu, the head of Price Supervision and Anti-monopoly Bureau in NDRC.
On 22nd,August, the official website of NDRC released that Qualcomm would like
to make improvements on the focus questions mentioned on 11st, July and further
find the final solution. The focus questions include charge for the over-dated
patent, patent permission bundled with chipset sale, refuse to give the patent
permission to chipset manufactures and so on.
During the discussion, both of the parties did not talk about the margin of
price adjustment, but exchanged the actionability of equal solution, and reached
an agreement in some degree. It means that it is possible that they will cut
the price of patent permission.
In this period, Qualcomm has to strengthen the communication with government,
and continue to open for the industry chain and delivered value. If not, it will be fined by princely sum, or fails like google in China.
